Lighten Dark Armpits Naturally with Lime

There is nothing as unsexy as see a lady dressed to the nines and as she reach up to rub her neck or point to something and you are greeted with dark armpits. I don’t know about you but I hate hate hate dark armpits! Naturally, I don’t have them but there was a time, my armpits started becoming dark due to a certain deodorant I was using.
After I had stopped using it, my armpits were still dark. At first, I was quite worried that they would always remain that way. I remember that lime and lemon are natural lightening agents due to citric acid content. So, I decided to buy limes because that was what I preferred.

Here’s how I did it:

  1. I washed my armpits with sponge, soap and water after which I dried them.
  2. I cut one lime into two halves.
  3. I squeezed and rubbed them on my armpits and left them to dry.
  4. I repeated step 3 every four hours or so. I did it just before bed and first thing in the morning.
  5. I did this religiously for about a month until my armpits started becoming fairer than the rest of my body so I stopped.

There you have it. This is what worked for me and another bonus was that the lime acted as a good deodorant. So it was killing two birds with one stone…lol

Hope this helps someone out there.

  4. Can dis be done immediately after shaving?

    ReplyDelete
  5. No, I wouldn't advise it. The skin there would be quite tender/delicate to handle the citric acid in the lime. Instead wait 24hrs before applying the lime juice or at least 12hrs if you feel your armpit skin is ready to handle it.

Anon. 16:29, Neni is right. Please don't try it. It will sting like crazy. Even deodorant, I don't use after shaving. Just follow Neni's directions and you're good to go!

Neni, thanks a lot. I've been wanting to try using Lime but it kept escaping my mind. Your post just gave me the needed push!

You're right that Lime(or Lemon) is good as a natural deodorant and natural lightening agent. Thanks a lot!

    1. Hi,Tobbie. I'm not a hair professional so I can only tell you what I do to my hair:
      1. Moisturize your hair regularly;daily if possible. Dampen your hair with very little warm water, then apply shea butter/ori thoroughly throughout your hair. Comb well to ensure it's fully moisturized.
      2. Steam your hair regularly at least once a month. If you don't have access to a hair steamer, mix shea butter/ori and olive oil or coconut oil, saturate your hair from root to tips. Cover with two shower caps.
      3. Leave on for an hour or for an even better result, leave over night.
      4. Wash off in the morning with shampoo and condition as usual.
Do this for the next three months and give me feedback
P.S. I will do a more detailed post on this next week to ensure you and others are fully satisfied. lol!
      Hope I helped

    1. The pleasure was all mine.
Yes, there is a lot of fake shea butter, I have been a victim so many times. So, I've learnt to identify it using four of my senses: sight, smell, touch and taste.
A very easy indicator is the colour. If it is pure white then it is not pure, it has been tampered with. It should dirty yellow or brownish white in colour.
It has a very distinct smell. It's not very pleasant but it's quite a unique smell.

  12. Plus pls Neni 2 mositurise can I use amila hair oil or dax hair cream or d concoction I made?
Some weeks ago,I prepared a hair concoction of shea butter, dax haircream(d green one),virgin hair fertilizer, pink oil for weaves, dark n lovely hair oil, sulphur 8 hair cream+hair booster hair fertilizer.
So pls I need an example of moisturiser 2 use...thnxxx!
    "Tobbie"!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Whoa! Your concoction has too many oils that are very effective on their own and this could affect your hair growth. I use Amla oil and shea butter to steam my hair sometimes. The fewer products in your mixture, the better for your hair. This is to avoid product overload.

Right now I moisturize with Organic Root Stimulator Carrot oil and shea butter because I have dry and stubborn hair and it does a very good job.

I suggest you mix a little dax and pink oil, since you won them already... just a little of each to moisturize your hair and see how your feel feels after applying it.

  15. Zinnia:
Neni, you didn't tell us that it would be sticky. This might not really be a great idea for those who can't stand sticky things.

Since I'm want to rid myself of dark armpits, I've got no choice but to tolerate it. I apply it in the morning and before retiring to bed.

It could sting at times esp. when applied in the morning.

PS: Neni, which one do you think is more effective, the green ones or the yellow ones?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Hi, Zinnia! Hope you had a good weekend. Mine wasn't sticky but it stung for a few seconds which is normal. Did you allow the lime juice to dry before putting down your arms? If yes, then your body reacts differently to it. Sorry about that. The green lime should be used. Once it turns yellow, it won't be as effective.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Zinnia:
Sometimes I allow it dry before putting on clothes and sometimes I do otherwise. Even at both cases, it's still sticky.

Like you said, our bodies react differently. I guessed as much that the green ones would be more effective since the citric acid content is very potent compared with the ripe one. Thanks babe!

    1. Hi Rubynnia,
Yes, my armpits faded back to their normal colour. It took about three months of dedication though. Wasn't funny at all!!

      Delete
    2. Neni, thanks but I need more clarification. You said, your armpit skin tone was getting lighter than the rest of your body so you had to stop.

Did it eventually match up ie even out with the rest after you stopped? Thanks and sorry for the bombardment.

      Delete
    3. Hi, Rubynnia.
No, it's okay. I love your questions in particular!
I am fair in complexion so I had to be careful with "colour control" so to speak. Yes, my armpits started becoming really whitish in colour therefore looking really funny. At first I wasn't very regular with the treatments during the first two months but become very regular in the third month.
Actually, I have very sensitive skin, so any treatment I do, affects it almost immediately.

Hope I have answered your question?

      Delete
    4. Neni, I'm sorry but NO! you haven't.

I'm also light skin as you; my question is- did the whitish tone remain like that or it later adjusted itself to the surrounding tones? Or your armpit is way lighter than the rest off your body? Thanks!

      Delete
    5. LOL!! No, as soon as I stopped using the lime, the whitish tone slowly adjusted to the the rest of my body. So, no my whole body is now one colour.

Now, have I answered your question????
      Please say yes!

  23. Hey Neni i read your post. I have started rubbing lemon on my armpits and today was the very first day but here i want to ask u does applying lemon for the first time cause irritation? Coz i experienced it and got red marks on and im worried. And also i have read that using baking soda can also help get rid of dark armpits, can i use baking powder instead of soda?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hi! Don't be worried. People react differently to different things and yours just happens to be lemon. I'll advice you to stop using the lemon. Apply baby powder on your armpits until the red marks are gone. After that, try baking soda. Mix a little baking soda with a little water and rub on your armpits. Let's see how that works out. Sorry about the lemon :-((

  24. Hey neni how ru? Neni i didn't stop using lemon. It has now get used to my skin. Frst two days i got the marks but now its been adjusted :-) but i have not felt any difference althoug its been 4th day since i am rubbing lemon. How much time will it take to lighten up my skin?
    Thanks

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hi, You should give it at least 3 weeks of constant use before you can draw any conclusions.
I started noticing results in the second week but then again, I'm fair skinned and my skin is quite sensitive so results may vary.
Also, ensure that you're not using anything else with the lemon.

      Good Luck!

    2. Hey.. My armpits were getting lighter but day before yesterday i waxed my armpits and right after that i rubbed lemon that burnt my armpits and again im at the same spot or may b worse than before. Everybody who reads my post do not apply lemon agter waxing your pits. Neni when will the marks go away? Im worried more than before now. Oh God why i got dark pits :-(

      Delete
    3. Hi, Anon!
You don't use it immediately after waxing/shaving. I said so in one of the comments if you scroll back up. That's why your armpits are reacting that way.
Next time you wax, rub baby powder there after waxing then apply the lime/lemon at least 24-36 hours later.
      Sorry O!
      Good luck!

  25. But how much time will it take to lighten the burnt skin now?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It's hard to tell because everybody's skin is different but on the average, most likely not more than 2 weeks if your skin isn't very sensitive.

  26. Neni do i need to apply something to remove burnt marks? And also plz tell should i quit using lemon?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Since you've got burn marks then stop using the lime for now because it will only make your skin more sensitive. Allow the burns to heal. Apply baby powder on them at night before bed and use a mild deodorant if needed.

    1. Yes, of course! But you need to exfoliate first before using lime.
