Do You Swim? Your Hair Needs This!



We all know the damage that pool water can do to one's hair. Do you know that the same chlorine in swimming pool water is a major component of bleach? Now, imagine all that on your hair while you're in the water. Yikes! *shudders*

This conditioning treatment works wonders on dry damaged hair, it is a staple in my hair routine whenever I'm in swimming mode.
Try it and see for yourself!

You'll need:
  • 3 tbsp Aloe Vera gel
  • 1 ripe Avocado
  • 2 tbsp Honey
  • 1 tbsp Coconut Oil
  • 1 tbsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • 1 ripe Banana
  • 5 drops Lavender essential oil (optional)
  • 5 drops rosemary essential oil (optional)
Directions

  1. Mix honey, coconut and olive oils in a bowl. Gently warm the mixture by placing the bowl in a bigger pot/pan of boiling water. Warm for 1 minute before removing from heat.
  2. Blend the Aloe Vera gel, avocado, banana and warm oil mixture. Add the essential oils while blending.
  3. Wash your hair first, then apply the mixture to hair and scalp, allow to sit 5 minutes before rinsing with cool water.

So, you can go ahead and swim all you want.

A DIY Vitamin Enriched Grapefruit and Grape Facial Mask

Grapes

Grapefruit




What you will need

  • Half of a large grapefruit, peeled
  • Half of a cored and unpeeled apple
  • 1 egg white
  • 30 grapes
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lime or lemon juice

Method

  1. Combine ingredients in a blender or food processor.
  2. Apply the mask to your face and leave for 20 minutes.
  3. Rinse with warm water and pat dry.
Do this twice a week for a month and watch your face glow!

A Perfect Almond and Egg Facial Mask For Dry Skin





Hello, my peoples!
I trust you all had a great weekend. Mine was good...could have been better but I'm not complaining.;)

Okay, so this facial mask is specifically for dry skin. If you have oily skin, abeg, no nearrrrr this mask at allll!!! Abeg o! That is because this mask is super moisturizing and is not kind to oily skin...I'm a victim/survivor/scapegoat.

You need just two items:

  • Almond Oil    1 teaspoon
  • 1 egg
  1. Beat the egg and add the almond oil to it and mix thoroughly. 
  2. Apply the mixture on your face and leave on for about 15 minutes.
  3. Rinse off the mask with cold water to reveal a glowing face.
 This mask is ideal for people with dry skin and is guaranteed to give you glowing and supple skin.

Two Easy Ways to Treat Razor Bumps



Razor bumps also called shaving bumps, are hairs that curl back on their own and turn back to expand under the skin. They remain in  the hair follicle which can cause irritation resulting in zits and bumps. Razor bumps on face are the most irritating thing to have or anywhere for that matter!
Not to worry, they can be dealt with and their event can be minimized or prevented with the help of two do-it-yourself remedies.


Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is an extremely effective solution for razor bumps. All you have to do is apply fresh aloe gel straight onto the bumps and using it straight on the razor bumps. You don't need to wash it off. 
 Hot Water

A simple hot compress can likewise help to treat razor bumps quickly. What to do? Boil some water. Soak a cotton ball in the hot water and apply on razor bumps.Your skin might get irritated for a few seconds however it is quite effective particularly on fresh shaving bumps.
So ladies and gents, shave all you want!

A Refreshing Watermelon Mask



Try this very, very refreshing facial mask. It's very effective and super hydrating. You'll love it, I promise!

You'll need:

  • 2 spoons of watermelon pulp.......*licks lips*
  • 1 spoonful of honey
  • 2 spoonfuls of lime or lemon juice


  1. Mix all the ingredients thoroughly.
  2.  Apply the derived mixture to your face and leave for 15-20 minutes.
  3.  Rinse with warm water.
Do this regularly and see your skin glow.

Who Knew? Get Soft Feet With Hair Shampoo!






I came across this by accident and what do you know? I ended up with the softest feet everrrrr! This is one of the many, many things I have stumbled upon that has made me wonder why I even bothered to attend beauty school but when I remember the steaming and extraction, I don't feel so bad anymore because that is some serious stuff!


You'll need:

  • Hair shampoo  2 full caps
  • Rice Vinegar      1 cooking spoonful
  • Warm water

  1. Fill a basin half full with warm water.
  2. Add the shampoo and vinegar to the water.
  3. Soak your feet in the water for at least 30 minutes.
  4.  Once done, you pat dry your feet with a piece of cloth or towel but make sure not to rub them.
  5. Apply whatever cream or lotion you usually apply on your feet. I mix my body lotion with a little shea butter.
Do this frequently for consistent results.

How to Enjoy Peanut Butter



Hello!
I trust you had a great weekend. Mine was so-so, thank you for asking.;)
Today, I would like to sing the praises of peanut butter or ose oji ( in Igbo). It gets a bad rap most of the time because many of us use it the wrong way.
You should eat no more than one tablespoon of peanut butter a day. That way, you get to enjoy the goodness of P.B.and maintain your waistline. I eat it almost whenever I'm updating my blog, it makes everything 'flow' better. lol!

Try it with an apple
Cut the apple into slices and dip into the peanut butter

You could also try it with a banana and you'll love it, I promise!

And if there is no peanut butter in sight, dash down to the nearest shop and buy 20 naira groundnut but try not to eat more than required! lol

Bust Your Pimples With some Garlic!


This little gem has saved my face on many an occasion! It will for you too if only you can look past the smell...lol

All you have to do is crush a clove of garlic, apply the juice from the garlic on your face, for about an hour at least three times a week. 

The garlic smell puts me off big time but who said being beautiful was easy??

NOTE: Although garlic juice will kill off acne-causing bacteria, do not keep it for too long as it can aggravate sensitive skin.

A Delicious Mango Body Scrub






I just love, love, love this scrub! Every time I use it, I feel as if I'm on some paradise island. It smells so delicious and is reminiscent of a pina colada *licks lips*
It's so easy to make and is swimming with vitamins.
Why not try it out and tell me what you think, hmm?
You'll be glad you did.


  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • Coconut oil, enough to make a paste
  • Ripe mango, chopped and peeled
  • 3 drops of orange essential oil (optional)



  1. Mash or blend the mango to form a smooth paste,
  2. Add the remaining ingredients and mix well.
  3. Scrubbing in a circular motion, start at your feet and work your way up
  4. Leave  for 15 minutes 
  5. Wash off with warm water and dry.
Now touch your skin... how smooth does it feel?

A Healthy Zingy Carrot and Apple Smoothie




Hello, everyone! Hope you had a  great weekend. My weekend was fantastic because I got another beauty treatment to add to my 'database'. Whoopee!!
So yesterday, I was tinkering about in the kitchen and when I was done, it was almost time for one of my favourite cartoons: Regular Show (yeah, I love cartoons!).
I always drink a smoothie while watching it, so I decided to make this particular smoothie. It's sweet and spicy at the same time as well as brimming with nutrients and all sorts of healthy goodness!! *licks lips*


Ingredients:
  • 2 carrots, chopped
  • 1 green apple, chopped into small
  • 1 medium-sized ginger root, grated
  •  Juice of 2 grapefruits
Instructions:
  1. Add all ingredients into a blender and blend, blend, blend!
  2. Pour into glass and drink up!

Lighten Spots with Cucumber and Lemon




This facial mask is great for lightening dark spots which may be as result of acne/pimple, wounds, boils, etc. In my own case, the spots disappeared totally! 

Why not try it out?

What you need:
  • 1 Cucumber
  • Half a lemon
  • 1 teaspoon of glycerin and rosewater.
  1. Blend the cucumber with a little water to form a paste.
  2. Squeeze the juice from the lemon into the cucumber paste
  3. Add the glycerin and rosewater and mix thoroughly.
  4. Rub on affected areas.
  5. Leave for 20 minutes.
  6. Wash off.

A Smoothening Walnut Shell Body Scrub

Hello!
So, guess what I'm munching on right now as I type this? Yep, walnuts. The local walnut, not the 'oyinbo' type o! Anyway, on my way back home yesterday while stuck in traffic in front of the market, I saw a woman selling walnuts and guess how much I bought? N1000 worth of walnuts!! I still cannot believe it. I love those things like crazy so don't blame me!
Whenever I eat walnuts, I keep the shells in a metal bowl until I get a substantial amount. Then, I ground the shells to a coarse powder and mix it with various concoctions to get various body scrubs. The possibilities are endless!

How do I go about it? Here's how:

Ingredients

  • Walnut shells
  • Honey
  • A little olive oil or any oil of your choice.
  1. Pound the shells in a mortar to break them into smaller pieces
  2. Put in a dry mill (that smaller blender used for blending crayfish,etc) and blend to a coarse powder
  3. Mix the honey, oil and the powder to form a paste
  4. Using circular motions, gently scrub all over the body
  5. Leave on for 15 minutes
  6. Wash off with warm water


So, what are you waiting for?

A DIY Basil and Yoghurt Mask





This mask came about as a result of having left over basil leaves from making pepper soup and as a non-waster, I just had to come up with something so I came up with this.
It's great for blackheads and pimples.
You should try it!

You'll need:
Plain Yogurt
Basil leaves a.k.a Scent leaf

Directions:

  1. Blend ingredients to form a paste
  2. Slather on face and neck
  3. Leave for at least 30 minutes.
  4. Wash off with lukewarm water.
It always works for me. I hope it does for you too.
